On Money
Do you remember from whence you came?
Does your money ease your anxiety?
Does your money bring out the best in you?
Are you generous of hand and compassionate of heart?
Does it soften the burden of your tumultuous mind?
Can it lift you out of your depression?
When you hold an abundance, do you ask people around you what they want? Or is your money a tool for control? A ticket to impose your will on those around you?
Does your money make the world a better place? A warmer place? A kinder place?
Or does it fuel your arrogance? Your superiority?
Do you remember from whence you came?
The fragile babe freshly born into this world.
Fed by milk made of a Mother’s love.
Do you remember the crowd around you when you took your first steps?
Do you remember the cheers as you learnt to ride a bike?
Do you remember the people - both loud and soft - who have spoken eternal truths into your life?
Do you remember what it felt like to be vulnerable?
Do you remember when you couldn’t afford to fill your car, but somebody did it for you? Do you remember your own tears?
Do you remember who helped you?
Do you speak with grace? Do you act with love?
Do you remember from whence you came?
Do you remember your own weeping as you were met with death?
Has money tempered that grief for you?
Or has it distracted you from your own heartbeat?
Does your money blind you to the healing all around you?
On the ground and in the wind.
Does it make you forget yourself? Your dignity. Your values.
Is it easy to feel new, but not realise it’s just the light on the mirror?
Is your money a weapon?
Or is your money a gift?
Does your money host your shadows?
Or your light?
You have money, for now. But does your life have meaning?
Do you remember what it was to struggle?
To struggle is no character flaw. It’s central to our very humanity.
Something we all share.
We all know the dark. We all know empty hands.
Do you remember?
I hope you remember.
I hope you remember.
I hope you remember.

Oh this! This! Thank you for you resonant words of inquiry and truth. This has been a present conversation in my current spiral of learning. Noticing the ways money emphasizes the shadow contracts that we carry - both in our emptiness and in our abundance. 🌬🌀
